LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore diver David Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro Area) and freshman swimmer Mike Nicholson (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) earned weekly honors from the Patriot League on Monday. Magaro was the Patriot League Male Diver of the Week, while Nicholson was named the Male Swimmer of the Week.
Magaro and Nicholson were honored after their performances in Saturday's 160-52 victory over Colgate at Kinney Natatorium. They are the first Bison to be honored by the Patriot League this season. The win helped the Bison improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 against Patriot League opponents.
Magaro was named Diver of the Week after a first-place finish off the one-meter diving board with a score of 242.03. It marked his second-best score of the young season, and was his first first-place showing.
Nicholson, on the other hand, picked up his eighth and ninth first-place finishes as he won the 400-yard individual medley and the 200 breaststroke by a combined 9.51 seconds. He set season-best times in both events, and moved from eighth to fifth on Bucknell's all-time 400 IM list.
Nicholson swam the 400 IM in 4 minutes, 3.78 seconds, defeating the runner-up by 4.76 seconds. He followed that with a 2:07.63 in the 200 breast, posting a 4.75-second win.
Bucknell will be back in action this coming weekend at the three-day Rutgers Invitational that runs Nov. 19-21.
