LEWISBURG, Pa. – Ross Liberati (Warwick, Md./Tower Hill), the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Patriot League Men's Soccer Tournament, has been named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week. Liberati and the Bison won their second straight Patriot League title on Sunday by defeating American 2-0.
A senior defender, Liberati was part of a Bucknell defense that conceded zero goals and only four shots on goal in the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison knocked out top-seeded and tournament-host Colgate on Friday night, and then in a rematch of last year's final, they blanked American 2-0. In addition to his usual sound defense, Liberati scored both goals off assists from classmate Tommy McCabe in the championship game.
Also on Monday, Liberati was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, joining Alec Sundy of California, Corey Hertzog of Penn State, Soony Saad of Michigan, Hakan Ilkan of UNC Greensboro, Nicolas Abrigo of William & Mary, Chris Bettencourt of Sacramento State, Jonathan Evans of Oakland, Ross Kelly of Coastal Carolina, Jalil Anibaba of North Carolina, Anthony Vazquez of Monmouth and Justin Marshall of Xavier.
Last week Liberati was named to the All-Patriot League First Team for the second year in a row, and he also earned a spot on the Patriot League All-Tournament Team for the second straight year. The team co-captain now has five goals on the season, a new career high.
Now 10-8-2 on the season, Bucknell is now listed No. 3 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings. The Bison will play Penn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night in Philadelphia.
