PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell men's water polo team could not overcome a 4-1 halftime deficit as it lost to No. 17 Princeton, 7-4, Saturday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool. The Bison fell to 7-8 overall and 0-4 in CWPA Southern Division play with the loss.
Bucknell's four goals were a season low as it lost to the Tigers (10-5, 4-0) for a second time this year, and fifth time in a row overall.
Beau Caillouette (Newport Beach, Calif./Sage Hill School), Richie Hyden (Melbourne, Australia/Greenwich (Conn.)), Howie Kalter (Durham, N.H./Phillips Academy Andover) and Paul Reamey (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) each scored single goals for the Bison. Hyden and Kalter combined to attempt 17 of the team's 27 shots.
Hyden also dished out one assist, bringing his career figure to 141, tying him with Scott Mutschler for seventh place in program history.
Brian Barron (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) and Spencer Richley (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) did combine to win all four sprints, with Barron going 3-for-3 to boost his season figure to 22-for-35.
As has been customary most of the season, Miles Gilhuly (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) and Matt Napleton (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) split time in goal with Gilhuly playing the first half and Napleton the second. Gilhuly yielded four goals and did not record a save, while Napleton posted three saves against three goals allowed.
Bucknell, which has played nine straight games away from home, will return to Kinney Natatorium next weekend for four league games. The Bison will host Johns Hopkins on Friday, Navy and George Washington on Saturday and Princeton on Sunday.
