BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior co-captain Molly Goebel and freshman Kelly Pontecorvo each won two races and the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team accumulated seven overall first-place finishes Friday evening during a season-opening non-scored meet at UMBC.
Senior co-captain Macey Keath (200 breast), freshman Emily Wright (50 free) and sophomore diver Lisa Bolle accounted for the Bison's other three victories.
Goebel had a strong opening meet as she won the 100 free in 53.46 seconds and she claimed the 200 free in 1:56.46. She also finished in the middle of a 1-2-3 Bucknell sweep in the 50 free, one spot behind Wright and one position ahead of sophomore Lauren Timmerman.
In her first career meet, Pontecorvo won the 500 free and 1,000 free. Her time of 10:27.07 in the 1,000 free ranks sixth in program history, placing her less than 16 seconds from Jamie Chakany's program record. Pontecorvo also finished third in the 200 free.
Keath's win in the 200 breast was in a time of 2:29.02. She also had a runner-up showing in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 breast.
Bolle's win came off the one-meter board with a score of 205.95, putting her with six points of 10th place on the Bison all-time list. She also took second off the three-meter board.
Bucknell will be back in action in two weeks when it competes at George Mason (Oct. 23) and George Washington (Oct. 24) on back-to-back days. Both of those meets will be scored.
