LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior goalkeeper Marc Hartmann (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephen's) and sophomore forward Josh Plump (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) earned weekly honors from the Patriot League on Monday after leading the Bison men's soccer team to a pair of victories last week. Hartmann was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, while Plump earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring goals in both games.
Hartmann made his first two starts of the season last week and backstopped a strong defensive performance in which Bucknell allowed only one goal in 190 minutes. The Bison came away with a 2-1 overtime win over Drexel last Tuesday and a 2-0 shutout of Navy on Saturday night.
Hartmann made three saves against Drexel, two of which came at opportune times. After the Bison tied the game at 1-1 on a Brendan Burgdorf goal with just 1:23 left in regulation, Hartmann saved the game with a big save from point-blank range with 12 seconds left. He then made another key stop on a corner kick header in the first overtime period.
On Saturday Hartmann faced a Navy team that came in leading the Patriot League in scoring at 2.6 goals per game, and he notched the team's first shutout of the season with a two-save performance.
Plump came off the bench to score the game-winning goal just 23 seconds into the second overtime period against Drexel. Just after the opening kickoff to start the period, Plump took the ball off the foot of a defender along the left sideline, dribbled all the way into the box and slipped home a shot just as the goalkeeper and a defender came charging at him.
Plump's third goal of the season was a key insurance tally in the 72nd minute in the 2-0 Patriot League win over navy. Two of his three goals this season have been game-winners.
Bucknell is now 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League this season. The Bison host UMBC in a non-league affair Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Emmitt Field, then they travel to Holy Cross for a conference match on Saturday.
