I'm still getting used to the idea of being a sophomore. I remember my first practice as a freshman and being introduced to the new, exciting scene of college swimming as if it were yesterday. Now I have a year's worth of experience under my belt, and we have launched into the season with a double-header at George Mason and at George Washington this past weekend. Looking back on our great effort and results, this is shaping up to be a great and promising season.
Even from comparing practices from this year and the last, there is a noticeable difference in the team's performance. Last year, our class was the one to watch out for at practices, and now, I find myself being pushed by the new arrivals. The freshmen class this year is full of talent, and it is great to see such a year-by-year improvement among the whole team as a result of this rising level of competition.
Our performance over Saturday and Sunday's meets in Washington, D.C. was a reminder of the potential that this season holds. We embraced the competition, secured important races, and our efforts led to two victories. Easily the most memorable moment of the weekend was in the final two events of the meet at George Mason. Trailing by fourteen points going into the 400 IM, our one-two-three sweep in this event followed by a close victory in the 200 freestyle relay was met with an incredible level of excitement. On the road that weekend, we were all proud to be Bison.
But our success is more than the hard work we put in the pool. As a team, we are more focused on our goals, and accountable to our standards. There is a focus toward the future that is shared, and a level of energy that I can't wait to see fulfilled as this season progresses.
