LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Kelliann Doherty (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, following her two-goal performance in the team's playoff-clinching victory over Holy Cross on Sunday.
Doherty assisted on Bucknell's goal in a tough 2-1 overtime loss to Army on Friday night, and on Sunday she scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 win over Holy Cross. It was her first two-goal game since her freshman year, and her 17 career goals are second-most among all active Bucknell players.
Bucknell trailed Holy Cross 1-0 until Doherty scored from a tough angle in the final minute of her first half. After the Bison took a 2-1 lead on Tara Cort's goal, Doherty scored what proved to be an important insurance goal in the 75th minute, volleying in a Caitlin Holtz corner kick.
Doherty ranks third on the team with nine points, coming on three goals and three assists. The former All-Patriot League selection has started all 18 games this season.
The Bison are 6-12 overall but 4-2 in Patriot League play. With one game remaining in the regular season, Bucknell is tied for first place with Army. The Bison have clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth, and they can win the regular-season title and host the tournament with a victory over Colgate on Saturday and an Army loss or tie against Holy Cross.
The Bucknell-Colgate game is set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Emmitt Field. Doherty and six of her teammates will be honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day ceremonies.
