LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey continued to bring in the awards as Vickie Resh (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg Area) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday. Resh assisted on the game-winning goal against Lehigh last weekend, helping the Bison clinch a berth in the Patriot League Tournament for the third consecutive season.
Resh claimed her first career point last Saturday. The freshman's assist led to Kelly Bruvik's (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) goal in the second half that propelled Bucknell to a 2-1 victory over the Mountain Hawks at Graham Field.
Resh also made sure the lead held up as she made a key defensive play late in the game to help stop a breakaway scoring opportunity for Lehigh. A starter at midfield in all 14 of Bucknell's games, Resh challenged Lehigh's Kimberly Eng one-on-one in front of the net and kept the score at 2-1 until the final buzzer.
The award is the first of Resh's career. Bucknell has also won two Goalkeeper of the Week honors from Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary), an Offensive Player of the Week award from Bruvik and a Rookie of the Week honor from Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) this year.
Bucknell, which is 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League, has a trio of big road games coming up this week. The Bison will head to University Park, Pa., on Tuesday to take on Penn State at 7 p.m. They will then head to American on Saturday and Rutgers on Sunday.
