TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Bucknell cross country ran up against some stiff competition in a field full of national-caliber teams at the Brooks Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday. The Bison women placed 32nd as a team in the White Race, led by Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X), who claimed the Orange and Blue's lone top-100 finish. Joshua Clark (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) was the men's squad's top finisher in the unscored Open Race.
Fulmer placed 86th individually, completing the six-kilometer course in a time of 21 minutes, 44.6 seconds. The junior's performance put her back atop Bucknell's finisher list. After leading the team in each of the first two meets this season, Fulmer took a back seat to teammate Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) at the Paul Short Memorial Invitational earlier this month. This week, Moniz placed 133rd at Indiana State with a time of 22:07.2.
Taking third on the team and 174th overall was Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's). Despite being separated from Moniz by 41 places, Hooper was just 20 seconds behind her teammate, crossing the line in 22:27.7.
Eileen Foley (Herndon, Va./Chantilly) and Caroline Tolli (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) rounded out the scoring for Bucknell. It was both runners' first time in the scoring column for the Bison.
On the men's side, Clark was 25th overall after completing the 8K course in 25:46.7. It was the second consecutive meet in which Clark was the first Bison to cross the finish line. Robert Yamnicky (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) placed 42nd individually. The sophomore's time of 26:02.0 was his fastest eight-kilometer time this season.
Also in the top five for Bucknell were Keith Sansone (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) (51st, 26:19.7), Dave Brown (57th, 26:25.0) and D.J. Krystek (Pitcairn, Pa./Gateway Senior) (66th, 26:34.9).
Georgetown won the women's team title in the White Race with 100 points. The fifth-ranked team in the country placed four individuals in the top 30. Stony Brook's Lucy Van Dalen took the individual title, however, running 20:08.1.
Brett Hales of Weber State won the men's Open Race with a time of 24:23.5. The race was not scored.
Bucknell will have one last tune-up before heading into its championship season. The Bison will next race at the Lock Haven Invitational on Oct. 23 with the Patriot League Championships following on Oct. 30.
