LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey will see its first opportunity to clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth when it hosts Lehigh at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. The Bison (5-8, 1-1), which are eyeing their third consecutive trip to the postseason, are also looking for their third straight victory over the Mountain Hawks having beaten their league foe by a single goal in the previous two meetings. Live stats on GameTracker for the 37th showdown between Bucknell and Lehigh will be available at BucknellBison.com.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell suffered a bit of setback last weekend as it dropped two consecutive games for the first time since opening the season 0-4. The Bison lost 4-2 at Lafayette last Saturday despite second-half goals from Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Katie Durkin (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan). Bucknell had a similar experience against Columbia the next day. Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) and Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) each scored in the second half, but the Bison fell 3-2.
- Siegrist finished the week with a team-best three points. The sophomore also assisted on Kauffman's goal at the end of play versus Columbia.
- A win against Lehigh would not only stop Bucknell's skid, but it would also be a key step toward clinching a spot in the 2010 Patriot League Tournament. Wins for Bucknell, American and Lafayette would assure the Bison a trip to the postseason. American takes on Colgate, while Lafayette plays at Holy Cross on Saturday.
- Corinne Razcek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) drew an assist on Siegrist's goal last Saturday. That gives the senior 33 in her career and brings her to within one of tying Amanda Faust's school record. One more assist will also tie Raczek for 12th on Bucknell's single-season list where her name can also be seen at first (16 in 2008) and fourth (10 in 2009). Raczek is currently tied for fifth all-time in the Patriot League as well. Her 33 assists equals the total put up by Lafayette's Jennifer Stone in 2000-03.
- Durkin leads Bucknell with three points in Patriot League play. In addition to her goal against Lafayette, Durkin also earned an assist opposite Holy Cross on Oct. 2. The sophomore is scoreless in non-league games.
- Bucknell has four total goals in Patriot League play and each one has been scored by a different player – Durkin, Siegrist, Bruvik and Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh).
- Bucknell has just one more home game following its matchup with Lehigh. The Bison will host Colgate on Oct. 30 at Graham Field. That Saturday will be full of activities as Bison field hockey celebrates Senior Day and all of Bucknell hosts Homecoming.
- Lehigh leads Bucknell in the all-time series, 21-14-1. When the two teams met last year, the Bison had the final say in a 4-3 win. Weiss netted the game winner on assists from Raczek and Sarah Ebright. Bruvik also finished with two goals as Bucknell outshot Lehigh 23-8 in the game.
- In 36 meetings between the Bison and the Mountain Hawks, neither team has ever won by more than three goals. Each of the last three contests was decided by a one-goal difference with Bucknell winning the last two.
ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
- Lehigh is 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League this season. Now with a four-game losing streak, the Mountain Hawks have league losses to American, 9-0, and Colgate, 5-1. The team's only wins came against Sacred Heart, which finished as a 4-1 decision in its season opener, and Siena, 4-0.
- Caitlin Donnelly and Madison Ingal share the team lead in goals (6) and points (12). Claire Horn holds the team's best assists mark with four. Jessica Miller has earned a majority of Lehigh's starts in goal. Through 12 games, she has a 2-9 record with one shutout in addition to a 4.17 goals against average and a .725 save percentage.
- Lehigh has been outshot 261-169 by its opponents this season. Not surprisingly based on those numbers, the Mountain Hawks have also been outscored, 48-22.
- The 2009 campaign ended with a record of 6-11 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks qualified for the league tournament after winning the tiebreaker with Holy Cross. They then fell 7-1 to eventual champion American in the semifinals.
- Lehigh returns just one of its three All-Patriot League performers. Kimberly Eng was a first-team selection in addition to being named the league's Rookie of the Year. Horn and Ingal were later named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team.
LOOKING AHEAD
Bucknell will be tested in each of its next two games. The Bison first travel to Penn State on Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. matchup. The following Saturday, Bucknell takes on American at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C. As of Oct. 12, Penn State and American were ranked 11th and ninth, respectively, in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
