LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman diver David Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro Area) was named the Patriot League Male Diver of the Week on Tuesday. Magaro earned the award thanks to a sweep of the diving events during Saturday's dual meet at Lehigh, which the Bison lost 166.5-131.5.
Magaro's diving sweep was his fourth of the year in a dual meet. He also swept against George Mason, Duquesne and Colgate.
Magaro won the one-meter competition with a score of 229.13, placing him nearly 20 points ahead of runner-up Ryan Helfrich of Lehigh. Off the three-meter board Magaro was even more dominate, claiming victory by nearly 30 points. His score of 244.43 marked the ninth consecutive meet he posted a score of above 240.00. Second-place John Styles of Lehigh tallied a score of 215.77.
By claiming the weekly honor, Magaro became just the second Bison diver in the last four years to be cited by the Patriot League. Jeffrey Manning, a 2009 graduate, was named Diver of the Week once last November and once as a freshman in 2006-07.
Magaro and the Bison will close out their regular season this Saturday at the Navy Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and feature American, George Washington, Old Dominion and host Navy.
