LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team turned in winning performances in all types of disciplines, and the Bison dominated the Bucknell Heptagonal meet Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. With 222.5 points, the Bison nearly doubled the point total of runner-up Duquesne (111.5). Among the highlights: Kyle Anthony remaining perfect on the season in the triple jump, Timothy Medlock leading a sweep of the top five places in the shot put, five top-10 all-time marks in the 60-meter hurdles, Christopher Boyd qualifying for IC4As while winning the 1,000 meters, and 1-2 finishes in the high jump and 60 and 500-meter dashes.
"Our men had a fantastic day and we really displayed great team depth across all the events," said head coach Kevin Donner after the meet. "We need to stay healthy and just get a few key people back on track and we will be very good." The Bison corralled their most points in the shot put, where Medlock, Jonathan Lockhart, Zachary Shapiro, Tom Barr and Quinten Marcott finished 1-2-3-4-5, good for 30 points on the scorecard. Medlock's win was his second of the season, and his throw of 51 feet, 11 inches was less than an inch off his season best. He had already qualified for IC4As.
Bucknell also scored well in the shot put, with Barr and Lockhart finishing second and third.
The 60-meter hurdles was almost a straight line of Orange & Blue across the track, as Bucknell runners occupies six of the eight lanes in the final. Five of the six Bison recorded PRs, all of which rank in the top 10 in program history. Sean Coyne finished second to East Stroudsburg's Russell Smith in a time of 8.32 seconds. That makes him the third-fastest Bucknell performer ever in that event. Just behind Coyne were Rob Arent (8.34, No. 4 all-time) and Dan Mularz (8.41, No. 5 all-time). Andrew Yehl, who broke the school record in this event last season, finished sixth in 8.48, followed by Ryan White (8.52, No. 7 all-time) and Jason Brown (8.53, No. 8 all-time).
Anthony continues to show why he is one of the top horizontal jumpers in program history. He is now a perfect 4-for-4 in the triple jump in 2009-10, and on Saturday he topped the 49-foot mark for the first time this year (49-5.5). Anthony was also runner-up in the long jump, as his mark of 23-5.25 was only 2.25 inches behind Lincoln's Jared Randle.
In the high jump, Drew Fitzgerald and Andrew Powell both cleared 6-6.25 to finish 1-2. Brown, Nicholas Hruch and Thomas Vogler also scored in that event as the Bison took five of the top six places.
Isaih Bell earned his first win of the season in the 60-meter dash, clocking another IC4A-qualifying time of 6.90 while outleaning teammate Marlon Woods (6.94) at the tape.
Bucknell scored yet another 1-2 finish in the 500, where Arent (1:05.28) and Evan Novakowski (1:05.68) outran the field. Arent's time was a personal best and now ranks 10th on Bucknell's all-time list.
Boyd turned in a terrific run in the 1,000 meters, finishing in PR time of 2:29.62. That qualifies him for the IC4A Championships in that event.
Also of note: Conor McNamara was runner-up in the 3,000 meters (8:29.80); Jordan Donaldson (50.92) and Gregory Baxter (51.19) finished 2-3 in the 400-meter dash; and Kevin McGoldrick anchored the 4x800-meter relay team to a third-place finish (8:05.07).
Rounding out the rest of the scoring East Stroudsburg in third place with 82.5 points, followed by Shippensburg with 77.5, Lincoln with 54 and Saint Francis (Pa.) with 7.
Bucknell will participate in two meets next weekend. It will host the Bison Open and Multi at Gerhard Fieldhouse, while a contingent will also participate in the Penn State National Invitational.
