BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team had individuals win 12 of the first 14 events as it won its final dual meet of the season, 182-115 at Lehigh Saturday afternoon. Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) and Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) were the lone double winners for the Bison, who improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 against Patriot League competition.
Warren, who was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay and the 400 free relay that posted the fastest time, but swam as an exhibition, claimed victories in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. Her 100 back time of 57.59 seconds was her fourth straight sub-58 second time and it was more than three seconds ahead of runner-up Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell).
Warren won a much closer 100 free over teammates Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) as Bucknell swept the top three spots. Warren's time of 54.31 was .33 ahead of Mongan and less than a second faster than Goebel.
Keath won the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Her time of 1:06.91 marked her fourth race faster than 1:07.00 this year. She now has six total victories in those two events this season. Teammate Morgan Oxley (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) finished third in the 100 breast, the only other top-three finish by a Bison in those two events.
Jamie Chakany (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Anna Griest (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster School) registered top-two showings in both the 1,000 free and 500 free with Chakany winning the 1,000 in a season-best time of 10:29.42 and Griest claiming the 500 in 5:11.94, just over a second ahead of Chakany.
While the 100 free 1-2-3 finish by Warren, Mongan and Goebel was the lone sweep of the first three spots for the Bison, Bucknell swimmers did finish 1-2 in five other events.
Other winners for the Bison included Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) in the 200 free, Alexandra Psaris (Waterford, Va./The Madeira School) in the 200 fly, Goebel in the 50 free, Russell in the 200 back and Allison FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal Academy) in three-meter diving.
FitzPatrick was Bucknell's top diver, winning the three-meter competition by more than 20 points. She took second off the one-meter board by less than two points. Overall, the Bison had four of the top five finishers off both boards.
Bucknell will wrap up its regular season next week at the Navy Invitational. The meet will be held at the same location as next month's Patriot League Championships, which will also take place in Annapolis, Md.
