LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Patriot\ League\ Men\'s\ Soccer\ Player\ of\ the\ Week on Tuesday after a prolific opening week of the season. O'Brien, the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, registered three goals and two assists in three matches last week, giving him a hand in all five Bison goals in their 2-1 start.
In last Tuesday's season opener, O'Brien scored both Bucknell goals in a 2-1 home victory over La Salle. The Bison spotted the Explorers an early lead, then O'Brien scored twice to bring his team from behind.
Over the weekend Bucknell went 1-1 at the Nike Fall Classic, hosted by New Hampshire. O'Brien scored the team's goal in a 2-1 loss to New Hampshire on Friday night, and then he assisted on both scores in a come-from-behind 2-1 won over Vermont on Sunday.
The Bison co-captain extended his point-scoring streak to eight games dating back to last season. That is one shy of the school record of nine straight games with a point, set by Ken Gulick in 1989. Dave Domsohn also had an eight-game streak in 1985.
O'Brien now has 18 career assists, moving him into sixth place on Bucknell's all-time list. His 54 career points are tied for 10th-most all-time with Mark Brotherton (1979-82).
O'Brien, who launched 18 shots in the three games last week, leads all Patriot League players in goals, assists, points and shots.
He will look to extend his scoring streak on Friday, when Bucknell opens up play at the Mayor's Cup in Oneonta, N.Y. The Bison will take on host Hartwick Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a noon Sunday match against Syracuse.
