LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey will welcome Temple for a matinee match at Graham Field on Sunday. Starting at 12 p.m., the Bison hope to hand the Owls their fourth consecutive loss while maintaining their own undefeated home schedule. Live stats on GameTracker and live video on Bison Vison will be available at BucknellBison.com.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell is 3-0 at home this year and 5-0 dating back to the end of 2008. The only other Orange and Blue team to start a season with four consecutive home victories was the 1996 squad, which defeated Drexel, Columbia, Hofstra and Towson State.
- The Bison's success on their home turf is not a surprise considering the team's stats. The Orange and Blue have out-scored their opponents 8-4 and out-shot them 55-35. The Bison have also taken more penalty corners, leading by a 33-17 margin at Graham Field. Individually, Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) leads the team with seven points, including three assists and two goals, both of which were game winners.
- First-year assistant coach Jamie Whitten has some close ties with the visiting Owls. Whitten was a graduate assistant coach at Temple each of the last two years while earning her master's degree in urban education.
- Bucknell split its weekend contests its last two times out. The Bison led off with a 3-2 overtime win at home against La Salle with goals from Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh), Austin Thomas (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and Kauffman. The Bison lost at Villanova two days later, 4-2, despite scores from Thomas and Mallory Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland).
- With last week's win over La Salle on an overtime penalty stroke, the Bison are 2-for-2 in penalty strokes this year. Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) succeeded on her first career attempt against Vermont earlier this season, while Kauffman was the scorer against the Explorers last Friday.
- With her goal and assist against Villanova last Sunday, Thomas maintained her scoring streak. The senior has a goal in each of the last three games, including scores against La Salle and Sacred Heart. It is the longest scoring streak of the forward's career.
ABOUT THE OWLS
- Sunday's meeting with Temple will be a first for the Bison in their 36-year history.
- The Owls enter the weekend with a 3-6 record and will take on Lock Haven on Saturday before continuing their travels to Lewisburg. Among their trio of victories is a 1-0 win over Lafayette earlier this month.
- In its last outing, Temple was shut out by No. 11 Drexel on the road, 3-0. It was the fourth time this season and the third game in a row the Owls have been shut out.
- Leading the way for Temple are Mandi Ruth, Bridget Settles and Charise Young, each with six points this season. Mandi Ruth and Settles each have two goals, as do Kristen Wanner and Kasey Ruth. Sarah Dalrymple has earned the goalkeeping duties for the Owls, earning a 2.44 goals against average and .699 save percentage in all nine of the team's games.
