LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell football team will host Marist Saturday in its first of two consecutive home games. Highlighting the Family Weekend game will be a special performance by the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps, which will perform inside Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium both pregame and at halftime.
Bison fans should plan on being inside the stadium at least 20 minutes prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff to catch the Caballeros pregame performance, which will last approximately 10 minutes. The popular group will retake the field at halftime for another entertaining 14-minute piece.
Organized in 1994, the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps is now in its 15th season. Representing American Legion Post 199 of Hawthorne, N.J., the Alumni Corps celebrates an earlier era and the proud tradition of one of the all-time great senior corps, the world-famous Hawthorne Caballeros. The Alumni Corps is staffed by many who were part of the 15 American Legion National Championships and eight DCA World Championships with the Hawthorne Caballeros.
Bucknell (1-2) and Marist (1-2) will be facing each other for the fifth consecutive year. The Bison own a 4-0 edge in the series and have won the two meetings at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium by a combined 65-14 margin. Bucknell will be going for its third consecutive home victory dating back to last year's season finale overtime victory against Fordham.
Saturday's contest is the first of two straight home games for Bucknell. The Bison will host Georgetown next Saturday, Oct. 3, and it will by Community Day at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, meaning free admission for all fans. Additionally, it will be Junior Bison Club Party Day and Take a Kid to the Game Day.
