LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) fired a 4-over-par 74 and broke the Bucknell 54-hole scoring record with a 228, leading the Bison to a fourth-place finish at the Bison Fall Classic, which concluded Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Club.
It was a solid season-opening weekend for Bucknell, which posted rounds of 318-315-315. The 948 composite is the second-best 54-hole score in program history, trailing only the 943 posted at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Oklahoma in the spring of 2008. The 315s marked the team's best score at its own tournament.
Lee's 74 was one stroke shy of the best score of the day in the 63-player field. She carded rounds of 78 and 76 on Saturday, and her 228 total put her in sixth place. It also bettered the individual school record by one shot. Amy Loughney previously held the mark with a 229 at the 2005 Big South Championship.
Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) also had a good weekend, shooting 77 on Sunday after going 76-80 a day earlier. She finished in 12th place, and her 233 total was a career best and tied for sixth on Bucknell's all-time list.
Also for the Bison, Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) finished up with an 80, Kelsey Meybin (Midlothian, Va./Saint Gertrude) shot 84 and Leah Antkiewicz (Aliquippa, Pa./Quigley Catholic) carded an 86.
William and Mary ran away with the team title, posting scores of 294-301-298. The Tribe's 893 total was good for a 36-stroke victory over runner-up Marshall (929). Columbia was third at 938, followed by Bucknell at 948, Lehigh (950), Youngstown State (960), Rutgers (967), Albany (976), Lehigh's B team (983), Robert Morris (1036), Kutztown (1057) and McDaniel (1082). Bucknell entered the final round in a fourth-place tie with Youngstown State.
Caroline Sweet of William & Mary won the individual title at 220 (72-74-74). Teammate Sarah Whitney was two shots back.
Bucknell will be back in action next weekend at the Princeton Invitational.
