LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey will try to extend its three-game winning streak as it takes on Columbia and Sacred Heart this weekend. The Bison (3-1) play Columbia at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 in New York, N.Y., and Sacred Heart at 2:30 p.m. the following day in Fairfield, Conn. Live stats on GameTracker for the matchup with Sacred Heart will be available at BucknellBison.com.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell created a three-game winning streak with victories over Vermont and Towson last weekend. The Bison took down the Catamounts 3-1 last Friday with goals from Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison), Marci Richard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) and Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day). The team followed that win with a 2-1 score over Towson. Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) and Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) claimed the goals against the Tigers.
- The last time the Bison won four consecutive games was in 2003, while the last time Bucknell took at least five in a row was 1999. The squad from a decade ago earned six straight wins midway through its season.
- Kauffman and Siegrist were each recognized by the Patriot League for their outstanding performances last weekend. Kauffman was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week after recording a goal and two assists. Siegrist was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week with a goal and an assist, as well as helping the Bison hold their opponents to two total goals.
- Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) and Kauffman continue to climb up the career assists list. Raczek is now fourth with 19 helpers, while Kauffman is fifth with 18.
- Krebs is also on record watch. With 16 career goals, the senior midfielder is just one tally shy of tying for 15th all-time at Bucknell. She also needs only three more points to move into a 15th-place tie for career points with 46.
- Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) earned the win in goal in each of the Bison's three team victories this year. That gives her 18 for her career, placing her eighth all-time at Bucknell.
- Not to be left out of the record watch, head coach Jeremy Cook has reached a milestone of his own. With the victory over Towson, the second-year coach has an Orange and Blue record of 14-9. That ties him with Cheryl Stockman for sixth in wins among Bucknell coaches. Next on the list is Sally Star who, with a 19-14-2 record, is fifth all-time.
ABOUT THE LIONS
- Bucknell leads Columbia in the all-time series, 5-2. In their last meeting, which came in 2002, Bucknell defeated its opponent 2-1 in double overtime. Former Bison Meiko Boynton scored the game winner off a rebound at 88:19.
- Columbia has played just once in 2009, falling 4-0 to Richmond last Saturday. The Lions split their goalkeepers' time in that game with Erin Conway and Christie O'Hara each playing a half. O'Hara recorded seven saves in the loss.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- Sunday's game with Sacred Heart will be the first time these two teams have met.
- Sacred Heart enters the weekend with a 0-4 record and a matchup with Fairfield slated for Friday before taking on the Bison on Sunday.
- The Pioneers have been outscored 16-3 in their first four games with Chelsea Carlson and Stephanie Fazio scoring the team's three goals. Carlson also has the team's lone assist.
