EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Molly Linhart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) fired a 25-yard shot into the top corner of the goal 5:51 into sudden-death overtime, lifting the Bucknell women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over host Mount St. Mary's on a chilly Friday evening. Two nights after collecting her first career victory, goalkeeper Colleen Garrehy (Danville, Calif./Carondelet) did it again, this time making four saves en route to her first shutout.
It was the second straight victory for the Bison, who evened their season record at 3-3. Mount St. Mary's fell to 2-4 this season and 0-9 all-time against Bucknell.
The Bison finished with a 14-9 shot advantage but could not dent the back of the net until the game's 96th minute. Linhart collected a 50-50 ball in the center of the field and blasted one past goalkeeper Alicia Miller to end it. Linhart, who battled injuries for most of last season, registered her first goal since scoring in overtime against Army in the 2007 Patriot League Tournament. That was also Bucknell's last overtime victory.
Garrehy made her final save of the night on Sadie Winship in the second minute of overtime. She lowered her season goals-against average to 0.92.
Bucknell now has six goals on the season coming from six different players. Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) returned to the lineup after missing two games with an injury, and she tied for team-high honors with Chelsea McGorry (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill Regional) with three shots.
The Bison will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, taking on Iona at 2 p.m. in New Rochelle, N.Y.
