LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's women's track and field phenom, senior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield), earned the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award Monday for her three victories at this past weekend's Patriot League Championships. It was the first time in Hathaway's career that she won the weekly honor as she helped the Bison to their eighth title in the last 10 years.
Three times Hathaway came off the final turn into the final straight in second place and three times she blew away her opponents over the final 100 meters to capture Patriot League titles as the anchor leg in the 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays and also in the 800.
Hathaway and her team consisting of Amanda Steinke, Stephanie Fulmer and Jenny Dalzell ran the third-fastest time in Bucknell history in the 4x800 with their 8 minute, 54.40 second performance. She also ran the third-fastest time in Bucknell history in the open 800, when she clocked 2:11.17 and was joined by Dalzell, Jennifer Pierce and Kalle James-Wintjen in winning the 4x400 relay in 3:53.21.
With her name present on Bucknell's all-time top-10 indoor and outdoor performance lists 12 times, Hathaway owns the school record in the indoor 500 (1:14.25), which she set at the Patriot League indoor meet. With only a few meets remaining, Hathaway finished her Patriot League career with three individual Patriot League titles and two more with relay teams.
Hathaway and the Bison will be back on the track for the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J. on May 15-17.
