Bucknell Lands Three on ESPN the Magazine Women's At-Large Academic All-District Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three Bucknell student-athletes were named to the ESPN the Magazine Women's At-Large Academic All-District Team on Thursday. Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East), a sophomore goalie on the women's lacrosse team, earned first-team honors and will advance on to the national ballot, while field hockey's Sarah Ebright (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and water polo's Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) were named to the second team.
DeLorenz is an accounting major with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average - this spring she completed her fourth straight 4.0 semester - and is also one of the Patriot League's top goaltenders. In fact, she was the Patriot League Goalie of the Year and a First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2009 after helping Bucknell to a nine-win season and a berth in the Patriot League Tournament.
She started all 18 games in goal this season and compiled a .476 save percentage and 11.15 goals-against average while making 10 saves per game. She ranked second in the Patriot League in saves and third in save percentage while making double-digit saves 10 times. A four-time PL Goalie of the Week, she led the team to first 9-win season since 1998.
Off the field, DeLorenz received the President's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement. She has done considerable volunteer work at retirement/assisted living homes and is heavily involved with the Catholic Campus Ministry, serving as Director of Spiritual Life and Evangelization. Earlier this spring, DeLorenz was named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
DeLorenz is the first Bison women's lax student-athlete to make the Academic All-District team since 1997, when Amy Green went on to become a Second Team Academic All-American.
This past fall, Ebright enjoyed a strong junior season as a defender on the Bison field hockey team. She started all 19 games and helped her team to an 11-8 record and its first berth in the Patriot League championship game since 2000. A team co-captain this season, she extended her games started streak to 41 in a row. She has played in 53 career games, with 52 of them coming as a starter.
A three-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Squad, Ebright is a civil engineering major with a 3.85 cumulative GPA. Like DeLorenz, she earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Spring 2009 semester. She is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Ebright served as editor of Chi Epsilon and has volunteered at school "play days," teaching elementary-age kids the sport of field hockey. Also a member of the Bucknell club ski team, she will be interning with an engineering firm in Harrisburg this summer.
This is the third straight year that a member of the Bucknell field hockey team earned a spot on the Academic All-District Team, as Kelly Hoffman was named to the squad in both 2007 and 2008.
Rowe graduated as the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Bison women's water polo program. A three-time all-conference selection, she totaled a school-record 358 points over the last four years. She is also the career record-holder in steals with 251, and she ranks second all-time in goals (222), assists (136) and games started (122). She broke the team's single-season records with 75 goals and 128 points while serving as team captain in 2009. Her 53 assists this spring are fourth-most in program history, while her 82 steals are third-most all-time.
An eight-time Dean's List member, Rowe graduated with a 3.65 cumulative GPA in English/creative writing and Spanish. She received the Charles F. White Memorial Prize for Scholar-Athletes, was a three-time member of CWPA and ACWPC All-Academic Teams and earned the Lee S. "Bud" Ranck Award for "outstanding spirit and contributions to the Bucknell athletic program" at the annual senior athletic awards banquet last month.
Rowe is the second women's water polo player to earn Academic All-District honors, joining Brooke Rea, who did so in 2001 and 2002.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America recognition, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team. Bucknell has had 117 national Academic All-Americans since 1970, the fifth-highest total among all Division I institutions.
