WEST POINT,N.Y. --After day one of the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Bison are sitting in third place in a tight scoring meet with Army and Navy. Bucknell has 34 points for third over Navy's 36 in second place and Army's 38 to lead the meet.
The Bison are looking to catch back up tomorrow with multiple scorers in single events.
"We have the high jump tomorrow and we swept it at the indoor Patriot League meet and we will look to rack up some points there," said freshman decathlon athlete Andrew Powell.
Bucknell got big a big win in the 4x800-meter relay, where the team consisting of junior Kevin McGoldrick, sophomore Christopher Boyd, sophomore Clayton Smith and junior Kyle Ramer, ran 7:34.95 and produced the sixth-fastest time on Bucknell's all-time performance list and the fastest since 2003. The Bison's mark was also an IC4A-qualifying performance. Bucknell's 4x800 improved vastly from the indoor Patriot League meet, where they finished in sixth place with a time of 7:43.81.
"It only takes one win and everyone gets jacked up," said Smith of the Bison's relay and day two charge to a Patriot League Championship.
Sophomore Stephen Dorsey battled in a competitive 10,000 field of 19 to grab the sixth-place spot to score for the Bison, running 31:04.80 and earn himself an invite to compete at the IC4A Championships in two weeks.
In the pole vault, the Bison a grabbed 16 of their 34 points from sophomore Drew Fitzgerald and junior Ryan White taking first and third. Fitzgerald's 15 foot, 9 inch vault tied his personal-best mark as White's vault of 14-9 grabbed much needed points for the Bison.
