WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell's men's track and field team finished second at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Army at Shea Stadium. The Bison totaled 151.5 points, placing them more than 80 behind behind first-place Army's 234. Timothy Medlock and Kyle Anthony posted wins on the final day of the two-day meet as Bucknell jumped over Navy and finished nearly 60 points ahead of the third-place Mids.
"I am very proud of how our men competed this weekend," Bison head coach Kevin Donner said. "All season we have had to fight injuries and to score 151.5 points and finish a strong second is a huge tribute to our men."
For the field events, Medlock led the Bison with a record-breaking performance in the shot put. Medlock broke Bucknell's school record with his victory, throwing 53 feet, 5 ½ inches. Junior Kyle Anthony, an NCAA Regional Qualifier, won the men's triple jump with his 49-3 mark. The two wins were both Anthony and Medlock's first outdoor Patriot League titles
Junior Andrew Huebner ran away from the 3,000-meter steeplechase field, winning by over five seconds and crossing the line in 9 minutes, 8.25 seconds.
In the hurdles, junior Andrew Yehl took second overall, placing behind Army's Domonick Sylve, while running 14.70 in the 110 hurdles. Yehl owns Bucknell's school record in that event.
In the men's decathlon, Bucknell put three in the top four, going 2-3-4. Ryan White placed second with 6274 points, Thomas Vogler in third with 6009 and Andrew Powell in fourth with 5900.
Bucknell's strong finish in the Patriot League regular season showed the teams overall strength as the perennial track powerhouse.
"As a coaching staff we work with both programs and we were the only school in the Patriot League to walk out with two trophies indoors and two trophies outdoors," Donner said. "We scored 340 combined points between the men and the women this past weekend which was the most between all the Patriot league schools."
Next up for the Bison will be the IC4A Championships on May 16-17 in Princeton, N.J.
