Sandburg Snags Wins Record In Bucknell's 6-1 Win Over Lehigh in Men's Tennis

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) broke the Bucknell overall wins record and the Bison men's tennis team rebounded from two straight losses with a big win over Lehigh Thursday afternoon on the Fieldhouse Courts. Bucknell won 6-1 to climb to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League this season, while the Mountain Hawks fell to 7-15 overall and 2-5 in Patriot League play.
Sandburg earned his record-breaking victory in doubles play, where he won with sophomore Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) in the number-one spot of by a score of 8-2, giving him 146 overall wins (146-111). He jumped over former doubles teammate Ira Reibeisen's program record (145-114). The pairing of Kovic and Sandburg has produced a team-best eight wins this spring (8-6).
Kovic won in singles as well to join sophomore Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and freshman Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) as double winners on the day.
Senior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and freshman Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) each picked up singles wins in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Bednarek's win gives him a team-best record of 11-3.
Next up for Bucknell is a pair of home contests against Army at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12, at 10 a.m. against Lafayette.
