Bucknell Men's Tennis Suffers 5-2 Home Loss to Army

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team had a chance to win its second Patriot League home match in three days on Saturday, but the Bison fell to Army by a 5-2 score. Bucknell dropped to 6-9, 1-3 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights ended their regular season with an 8-14 overall record, including 4-2 in Patriot League play.
Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) earned the two victories for the Bison, who will play Lafayette on Sunday, marking their third league match in four days. Malloy won easily at No. 3, defeating Chris Albornoz, 6-3, 6-1. Maxson, who has broken into the lineup recently and owns a 4-2 record this spring in singles play, had a tight match, but pulled out a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Dan Shaffer at No. 6.
Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon), who broke the program career record for combined singles and doubles victories Thursday against Lehigh, increased his record by one as he teamed with Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) to claim a 9-8 victory at No. 1 doubles. That duo has now won two in a row after starting off Patriot League play with a pair of losses, while Sandburg now has 147 victories in his four-year career.
Bucknell will return to action on Sunday when it plays its final league match prior to next weekend's Patriot League Tournament. The Bison will host Lafayette at 12 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will be held prior to the match, which will be played at the same time the Bucknell women host the Leopards.
