SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Nerissa Barzee's fifth goal of the day was the go-ahead tally in overtime, as Le Moyne rallied to defeat Bucknell 10-9 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Sunday at Onondaga Community College. Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) scored three goals for the Bison, who fell to 9-4 on the season.
Le Moyne (5-7) came from behind in both regulation and overtime to end Bucknell's two-game winning streak. Back-to-back goals by Donohue gave the Bison an 8-6 lead with 14 minutes to play, but the Dolphins scored twice in the final 10 minutes to send it to overtime.
A Ryan Gribbon (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) draw control set up another Donohue goal with 58 seconds left in the first three-minute overtime segment that put the Bison on top again, but Jackie Lundblad tied it with 1:52 to play and Barzee won it on a free-position shot with 1:02 left. Barzee won the ensuing draw control, and Le Moyne ran out the clock.
Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) and Julia Braun (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) both finished with two goals and an assist for Bucknell, while Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) made 13 saves.
The Bison twice held two-goal leads in the first half, the last at 5-3 after Braun's unassisted tally. Two goals by Barzee tied it at 5 at the half.
Buechel and Barzee swapped goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half, then two straight goals by Donohue put the Bison up 8-6. Bucknell allowed only one goal in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but the Dolphins broke through twice late to send it to extra time.
DeLorenz made six saves in the second half, including two late stops to preseve the tie, and two more in the second overtime period, but Le Moyne outshot the Bison 31-20. Bucknell won the draw control battle 13-10, while both teams collected 17 ground balls.
In addition to her three points, Buechel stuffed the boxscore with five draw controls, five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Bucknell now has six days to prepare for its biggest game of the season, a first-place showdown with defending Patriot League champion Colgate. Both teams come in with 4-0 Patriot League records, and the winner will take a big step toward locking up home-field advantage for the league tournament later this month.
