LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's men's track and field program was recognized by the Patriot League on Tuesday as freshman javelin thrower Ted Heitzman (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia), was awarded the Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week award for the second week in a row.
With his second win consecutive honor, Heitzman had the biggest throw of his life this past Saturday at Saint Francis' (Pa.) Red Flash Open, when he had a toss of 202 feet, 7 inches for an NCAA Regional-qualifying mark and also an improvement in his position on Bucknell's all-time performance list, where he now resides in eighth place. Heitzman will join his teammate, junior Steven Pierce (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood), at the late-season championship meet. Pierce also qualified in the javelin at the Maryland Invitational, with a throw of 213-1.
Heitzman and the Bison will return to action on Friday, May 1, at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Army in West Point, N.Y.
