WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 4 seeded Bison lost their Patriot League men's tennis tournament semifinal match against No. 1 seeded Navy Saturday. Bucknell was turned back 4-0 by the overpowering Mids, who cut the match short with an insurmountable 4-0 lead over the Bison. Bucknell sits at 7-12 overall with only one match remaining this spring season and Navy's record is now 16-6.
Navy heads into the Patriot League championship match, scheduled for Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m. against the winner of Saturday afternoon's Colgate/Army match.
To defeat the Bison, Navy had to better the Bison's fourth, fifth and sixth flights of singles, while the opening three flights were still being contested.
The Bison were playing in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament for the third straight year. Bucknell defeated No. 5 seeded Lehigh Saturday 4-2.
This spring, the Bison were led in singles by senior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic), who recorded a 13-6 overall record to lead the Bison, and sophomore Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) and senior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) in doubles who recorded an 11-7 tally to lead Bucknell.
