Bucknell Men's Tennis Sweeps Boston, 7-0

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Bucknell men's tennis team had an impressive showing in their first outdoor match of the spring, blanking Boston University 7-0 in Fort Myers on Monday. It was the first sweep of the spring season for the Bison (3-3) as they begin their three-day trip through Florida.
The Orange and Blue got off to a quick start and claimed the first point of the day, sweeping the doubles competition 8-3 in all three matches. Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) paired with Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) at the No. 1 position. Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) kept the ball rolling at second doubles, and Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) closed things out at No. 3.
Sandburg faced a more difficult battle at No. 1 singles, taking on the Terriers' Jeff Chudacoff. Sandburg dropped the opening set, 6-7, but stormed back in the second, winning 6-1. The deciding set also went in Sandburg's favor, 11-9.
Sanburg was not the only Bison to go the distance, as Cohenca also had to come back from one set down to claim the win. Cohenca ultimately defeated Charles Weinstein, 5-7, 7-5, (10-7), at third singles.
Bucknell's remaining four singles bouts came in straight sets with Kovic, Malloy, Brenner and Bednarek each claiming their second wins of the day.
The Bison continue their Spring Break trip in Florida on Tuesday, March 10 as they take on Florida Gulf Coast, the alma mater of Bucknell assistant coach Stephen Schram, at 2 p.m.
