LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore midfielder Julia Braun (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) was named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after playing a major role in Sunday's 9-7 win over Robert Morris at Graham Field.
In that game, Braun was credited with four caused turnovers and seven ground balls. The latter figure was a career high, and fell just one shy of the Bucknell single-game record. She also had two draw controls in the contest, including a critical one with the Bison clinging to a one-goal lead with two minutes left in the game.
Braun was part of a Bucknell defense that kept the Colonials off the scoreboard for about 34 straight minutes in the middle part of the game. She also scored a goal early in the second half that gave her team its first multi-goal lead of the day at 7-5.
The victory improved the Bison to 3-1 on the season, their best start since 1997.
Braun now has five goals and one assist in four games in 2009. She leads the team with 16 ground balls, is tied for the team lead with eight draw controls and ranks second on the squad with six caused turnovers. Braun is tied for the Patriot League lead in ground balls per game at 4.0.
Next up for the Bison is their Patriot League opener on Saturday at Lehigh at 1 p.m.
