Bucknell to Host NJIT in Men's and Women's Tennis Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Fresh off of 7-0 victories against Mount St. Mary's Tuesday, the Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams will be hosting matches against New Jersey Institute of Technology Saturday, at noon, on the Fieldhouse Courts. With their recent victories, the women's record is now 9-5 and the men are 4-6.
NJIT has a 4-3 men's record and a 6-3 women's record.
For the women, the Bison beat Florida Gulf Coast, 5-2 on their spring trip to Florida. The Highlanders fell to Florida Gulf Coast on March 17, with a score of 6-0.
Both men's teams suffered losses to Florida Gulf Coast over their spring trips in Florida.
The men will play again Sunday, March 29 against Navy in Annapolis, Md. at noon. The women will be hitting the courts again on Wednesday, April 1, at 3 p.m. against Fairleigh Dickinson on the Fieldhouse Courts.

Women:
Only once this season has Bucknell followed a loss with another loss.
Three of the five Bison losses have been decided by a single match.
The Bison's top three doubles teams this spring have a combined record of 17-3.
In singles, the Bison have three women who each have 10 wins this spring, and only eight combined losses.
Seniors Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown High School) and Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) have collected over 200 overall wins (209) in their careers at Bucknell.
The Bison have had five different women playing in the one spot this year. Junior Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) has the best record (5-2).
What's worked for the Bison:
Juniors Tania Varela and Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) have not lost a match this spring in the second spot (4-0).
Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), a sophomore, is 10-1 this spring, playing out of the fifth and six spots.
The pairing of Gamboa and sophomore Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School For Girls) has produced seven wins and only one loss this spring. This is the most for the Bison.
Lucido is 9-2 this year when playing from the second spot of singles.
Men:
Senior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) is two wins shy of tying Ira Reibeisen's program record of 145 overall victories.
Bucknell has three players with over 100 career overall victories.
Sophomore Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) has the highest winning percentage for the Bison (.768).
Bucknell has only used five doubles teams this spring.
Sophomore Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.) has only played doubles matches from the one spot this year (15-8).
What's worked for the Bison:
Working from the six spot mostly, senior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) is 7-2 this spring.
Malloy is 6-1 from the second spot of singles this spring. He's got a 17-6 record this year.
The Bison's un-flighted doubles matches have equated to a record of 13-3 this year.
Freshman Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) is 2-1 this spring, 12-3 this year in singles play and 6-3 in doubles play. His .750 winning percentage is the second highest on the team.
