Bucknell Women's Tennis Beats Villanova 7-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Winning every singles match and claiming two of three doubles matches, the Bucknell women's tennis team was able to deny Villanova 7-0 Saturday on the Fieldhouse Courts. The Bison's victory brought their overall record to 8-5.
The Bison kicked things off with two doubles victories in the first two courts. Senior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) and sophomore Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School For Girls) won 8-6 over Courtney Reed and Jaclyn Williamson in the first spot. In the second spot, juniors Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) and Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) defeated Carla Erskine and Emily Urda, 8-5, this spring,
Gamboa and Lucido won for their team-best 12th time this year, while only losing three times.
Bucknell did even better in singles competition where it denied the Wildcats in every match. Varela, Lucido, Gamboa, freshman Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School), senior Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown High School) and sophomore Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) all won in courts one through six, respectively.
Rottkamp has only lost once this season, while recording eight wins.
The Bison return to the courts on Tuesday, March 21 against Mount St. Mary's in Emittsburg, Md., at 3 p.m.
