
Bucknell Women's Tennis Sails Past Florida Gulf Coast, 5-2

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Bucknell women's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip to Florida with a 5-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday. Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School For Girls) and Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles, and the pair also won their singles matches in straight sets.
Bucknell captured the doubles point with wins from Lucido/Gamboa at No. 1 (8-5) and an 8-4 win from Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) and Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) at No. 2.
In singles, Lucido defeated Eva Sambrano 6-4, 6-3, while Gamboa topped Heather St. John by the same score. Dumi Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) at No. 4 and Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) at No. 6 capped off the victory with straight-set wins. Rottkamp was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Joanne Power to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Now 7-3 this spring, the Bison are back in action on Wednesday against Barry. FGCU, the alma mater of Bison assistant coach Stephen Schram, fell to 1-9.
