CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bucknell sophomore Gonzalo DeLeon (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) broke the week-old school record in the 200-yard backstroke and finished second in that event on the final day of the ECAC Swimming & Diving Championships at Harvard's Blodgett Pool.
DeLeon posted a time of 1:49.07 in Sunday evening's 200 back final. Josh Rosenbluth of Rider won the event by almost two seconds (1:47.18). DeLeon's time broke the Bucknell record of 1:49.13, set last weekend by freshman Thomas Brown at the Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium.
Also in the men's 200 back, junior Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) placed fifth in 1:50.39. Fletcher's prelim time of 1:49.35 was a personal best and the third-fastest in Bucknell history, trailing only DeLeon and Brown.
Junior Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) also scored for the Bucknell men on Sunday. Trafton, who was second in the 500 freestyle and third in the 200 free earlier in the meet, placed 13th in the 200 butterfly. His time of 1:51.23 makes him the third-fastest performer in program history.
On the women's side, junior Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) came back a night after winning the ECAC title in the 100 back and finished fourth in the 100 free (51.40).
Two Bison freshmen scored in the 200 breaststroke. Kristen Bucaria (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) placed 10th in 2:26.36, the ninth-fastest time in program history, while Ellen Carter Stagg (Richmond, Va./James River) placed 16th in 2:32.30.
The Bucknell men accumulated 97 points at the meet, good for 12th place, while the women collected 59 points for 14th place.
