Bucknell Men's Tennis Falls 6-1 at St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y., on Saturday. Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) earned the Bison's lone point at No. 5 singles, defeating Victor Lecina 6-4, 6-4.
Bucknell threatened in doubles action, staying within striking distance throughout all three matches. Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) fell 8-6, but the other two doubles contests were even tighter, not ending until 9-8.
The lack of momentum from the opening matches slowed the Bison in singles play against a very strong St. Bonaventure team. Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) each took their matches to three sets. Sandburg won his first set 6-3 against Chris Post, but was unable to hold on in the end, dropping the final set 6-2 and 6-3.
Brenner found himself down a set early against Mikhail Sudakov but rebounded to 7-6 in the second. The senior struggled to close out the match, however, falling 6-1 in the third set.
Bucknell will remain in Olean, N.Y., to take on Buffalo on Sunday, March 1. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
