LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team was recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for its 2008 academic success recently. The Bison completed the fall semester with a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.3, joining 64 other Division I schools nationwide with GPAs of 3.0 or better.
The team was led by junior Sarah Ebright and freshman Marci Richard, who both posted 4.0 GPAs in the fall. Ebright, a civil engineering major, and Richard, a chemistry major, also headed the list of 16 Bucknell field hockey student-athletes named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in January. The 16 honorees ranked Bucknell second among the six teams in the Patriot League and represented nearly three-quarters of the Bison roster.
Bucknell field hockey ended its 2008 season with an 11-8 record and its first appearance in the Patriot League Tournament since 2000. The squad fell 5-2 in the tournament championship game to top-seeded American University, ranked No. 19 in the country in the STX/NFHCA poll. The Bison's 11 wins last season was tied for most in program history.
The Orange and Blue will be back on Graham Field for the new season in August.
