LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior attackman Austin Winter (Boonton Twp., N.J./Mountain Lakes) was named to the Tewaaraton Trophy preseason "watch list" on Thursday. It is the second straight year Winter has garnered consideration for the national college lacrosse player of the year honor.
Winter, an Honorable Mention Preseason All-America selection by Inside Lacrosse, is one of 60 players named to the watch list.
Winter was also picked as an Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse following the 2008 campaign, when he tallied 19 goals and 33 assists for 52 points. His 2.20 assists per game ranked No. 2 in the nation, trailing only First Team All-American Matt Danowski of Duke. Winter also ranked first in the Patriot League and 18th in Division I lacrosse with 3.47 points per game.
The 6'4" attackman has a point in every game in his career, including this year's season opener at No. 6 Duke, when he registered five points on a goal and four assists. Winter is the only Bucknell player ever to earn first team all-league honors as both a freshman and sophomore.
Winter is one of five Patriot League players on the Tewaaraton list, joining Navy's Tim Paul and Andrew Tormey, Colgate's Brandon Corp and Army's Jason Peyer.
The Tewaaraton Trophy has been awarded to the top male and female college lacrosse player each year since 2001. Last year's winners were Hannah Nielsen of Northwestern and Mike Leveille of Syracuse.
The Bucknell men's team dropped its opener at Duke, 11-7, and next faces Ohio State on the road Saturday at noon.
