LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell men's soccer seniors Patrick Selwood (Darnestown, Md./The Heights School) and Sean King (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-East Region Team. It is Selwood's second straight berth on the squad, while King was honored for the first time. Selwood was a second-team selection, while King was named to the third team.
Selwood and King were both ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections in 2009, with Selwood going on to become a national Academic All-American. Selwood carries a 3.72 cumulative grade-point average as a double major in philosophy and religion, while King is an economics major with a 3.80 GPA.
Both players became part of Bucknell's winningest senior class after leading the Bison to a record-setting 17-6 record in 2009. For the second time in the last four years, Bucknell captured the Patriot League title and won a first-round game in the NCAA Tournament.
Selwood enjoyed a terrific senior year for the Bison. He was named MVP of the Patriot League Tournament after leading the team to back-to-back 1-0 wins over Lafayette and American. In fact, Bucknell broke the school record for shutouts in a season with 12, with 10 of those coming by 1-0 margins.
Selwood was a First Team All-Patriot League defender in 2009 after earning second team honors as a junior. He missed only one start in his last two seasons and was the leader of Bucknell's defense from his center back position. Selwood anchored a standout defense that had allowed only 17 goals in its first 22 games before conceding five to No. 2 Virginia in the NCAA Round of 32. Selwood was named to all-tournament teams in each of the five tournaments in which Bucknell played over the last two years, including the Nike Fall Classic, the Mayor's Cup and the Patriot League Tournament this season.
Off the field, Selwood is one of the team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives and has served as a Eucharistic Minister with Catholic Campus Ministry. Selwood also founded the Bucknell chapter of St. Sebastian Society, an organization for Catholic student-athletes.
King earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors as a key member of the Bison midfield unit in 2009. He was a solid two-way player helping both offensively and defensively. This season he scored his first career goal against Navy, and it held up as the game-winner in an important 1-0 road win over the Midshipmen. King has started all 23 games this season and made 40 career starts. He had a goal and two assists in 2009, and a goal and four assists in his career.
Like Selwood, King is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and a six-time Dean's List member. King was a member of a management program that built a shed for Haven Ministries, he has been a member of a Leadership Hall and was a member of the Bucknell Dining Committee.
