LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell junior Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA)/adidas Scholar All-America Team, making her the first Bison women's soccer student-athlete to receive the honor. Matlack, a biology major with a 3.52 cumulative grade-point average, was a third-team selection.
Matlack was the 2009 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year after producing nine goals and two assists for a Bison squad that finished 10-8-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the Patriot League. She was also an NSCAA Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region and First Team All-Patriot League selection.
Matlack has moved into the top 12 on Bucknell's career charts in goals, assists and points. With another year still to play, she already ranks eighth in goals with 25, tied for 12th in assists with 11 and seventh in points with 61.
While the Bison produced 10 or more wins and qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the fifth year in a row, it was also a banner year in the classroom.
The team earned an NSCAA Team Academic Award after compiling a stellar combined GPA of 3.50 over the last year, which ranked among the leaders in all of Division I women's soccer. Senior defender Lauren Stoller, who earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors earlier in the fall, was also an honorable mention NSCAA Scholar All-East Region choice.
This is the fourth straight year Bucknell has placed at least one student-athlete on the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region team. Matlack is the second first-team pick, joining Jennifer Dervarics in 2008. Nicole Marotta (2007, 2008) and Shannon Curd (2006) also earned the honor.
Matlack and Navy's Shelly Moeller represented the Patriot League on the Scholar All-America Team.
