ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team traveled to Navy on Saturday and went 2-1 against its first Patriot League foes of the season. The Bison defeated American (229-60) and Lafayette (223.5-70.5) and lost to host Navy (156-122). Bucknell is now 3-2 on the season.
Bucknell and Navy dominated the tri-meet, claiming all 14 swimming events and 15 of the 16 events overall in the meet that was contested in meters. A Lafayette diver won the three-meter competition, the only event not won by a Bison or Mid.
Luke Trafton, Taylor Harris and freshman Billy Krause were the three individual winners for Bucknell, which also saw its 400-meter freestyle relay team win its race by more than five seconds over runner-up American. Trafton swam the final leg of the relay.
Trafton's individual victory came in the 400 free as Bucknell took three of the top four spots in the race. Trafton's time of 4 minutes, 12.07 seconds placed him first, while Matthew Segar and Matthew Stevens claimed third and fourth, respectively. Trafton also posted a top-five finish in the 800 free.
Harris' win came in the 100 fly, where he clocked a 58.34, .25 seconds ahead of teammate Eric Sokolosky, who posted three top-three finishes Saturday.
Krause's victory came in the 400 individual medley, an event that featured Bison in each of the first four spots as a number of Navy swimmers swam exhibition.
Daniel Fletcher was a Bucknell swimmer who did not post a win, but did accumulate three top-five finishes, including runner-up showings in the 100 and 200 back.
Freshman David Magaro took second off both the one-meter and three-meter boards, contributing to Bucknell's final point totals.
Bucknell will continue on the road next weekend as it travels to the Princeton Open Nov. 13-14.
