LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior defender Patrick Selwood (Darnestown, Md./The Heights School), the MVP of the Patriot League Tournament for the victorious Bucknell men's soccer team, has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. Selwood captained a Bucknell defense that posted a pair of 1-0 shutouts against Lafayette and American, lifting the Bison to their second Patriot League championship.
The Bison defense played 185:39 of shutout soccer in the tournament. Bucknell now has 11 shutouts on the season, nine of which have come by 1-0 margins. Selwood is a major reason for that success. He cleared a ball off the goal line in the American game to help preserve a 1-0 lead, and against two opponents featuring all-conference strikers, the Bison yielded only five total shots on frame all weekend.
Selwood was a First Team All-Patriot League selection last week, and he has now been named to five all-tournament teams in the last two seasons. He has missed only one start over the last two years and was also an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection this year.
The Bison have more soccer still to come, as they will visit Princeton on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
