LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey saw its two-game winning streak come to an end as the Bison fell 1-0 to Lock Haven at Charlotte Smith Field on Tuesday night. Goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) recorded seven saves in the game, but Bucknell (7-4) was unable to get past the Bald Eagles' (10-3) defense and managed just one shot on goal.
Lock Haven's Amy Hordenforf scored the contest's only goal on an assist from Najia Hasan less than four minutes into the start of play. The goal got past Atieh near the post to set up the win for the home team.
The game's remaining 62:49 went scoreless, although both teams had opportunities. Both the Bison and the Bald Eagles got four shots off penalty corners with each o those attempts being turned away.
Bucknell refused to go down without a fight, however, and put some solid pressure on Lock Haven in the game's final minutes. The Bison got a good look at tying things up and perhaps heading into their fourth overtime game of the season when they received a penalty corner with just seconds left in the game. Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh), the reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, got a last-second shot off as a result of the corner but had it blocked in front of the net.
Lock Haven also won the battle of shots, 14-7, with eight of them getting on goal. The Bald Eagles' Erin Terreson earned the shutout.
Bucknell will be back on the field to continue its Patriot League schedule with an 11 a.m. game at Lehigh on Saturday, Oct. 10. Live video of the contest in Bethlehem, Pa., will be available on LehighSports.com.
