Bison Men's Tennis Closes Out Home Tournament with Pair of Wins

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) advanced to the Flight B singles semifinals, but Bucknell men's tennis struggled to find its swing on the final day of the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday. The Bison battled through some tough matches on the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts. Both of Morque's matches went the distance, and each of the sets in three other matches was decided by a single service break.
Morque kicked off his day by defeating Connecticut's Dave Adams 6-4, 1-6, (10-7). The freshman opened his semifinal match appearing recovered from his late-match hiccup in the previous round. He took the first set 6-3, but again fell in the second, this time by a score of 6-4. The 10-point tiebreak proved to be less lucky for Morque this time around as he fell 10-4.
Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) both fell in their second-round contests by narrow margins. Cohenca was knocked out 7-5, 6-3 in Flight A by Fairleigh Dickinson's Peter Skvarda, while Katten went out by a nearly identical score of 6-3, 7-5 to UConn's Tom Cook.
The doubles pairings of Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) and Cohenca, and Morque and Katten each lost 8-6 in their respective matches.
In the singles consolation matches, Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) defeated Colgate's Harry Jewett 8-3.
The Bison will return to the courts after a weekend off for another Bucknell Invitational. Play at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts will begin Friday, Oct. 16 and run through Sunday, Oct. 18.
