LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior defender Lauren Stoller (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) became the first student-athlete in program history to earn three ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District certificates when she was named to the District 2 First Team on Friday.
Also picked in 2007 and 2008, Stoller carries a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average as a psychology major. A co-captain this season, Stoller has started all 17 matches at right back for a Bison team that is leading the Patriot League women's soccer standings with a 5-1 record (10-6-1 overall).
Stoller has helped lead the Bison to four-straight 10-win seasons, and if Bucknell can manage a win or a tie at Colgate on Saturday, it will capture the Patriot League regular-season title for the third-time in the last four years.
Stoller has started every match - 75 and counting - in her standout four-year career. She was an All-Patriot League selection in both 2006 and 2007, and she helped the Bison break the school shutouts record in both 2007 and 2008.
A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, Stoller spent the spring 2009 semester studying in Prague, Czech Republic. Closer to home, she has volunteered locally at the Sunflower Day Care and Milton Soup Kitchen. She is an Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society member and has interned with the Dana & Christopher Reeve Foundation and Johnson & Johnson.
Stoller will now be eligible for National Academic All-America honors. Bucknell has had 117 all-time national Academic All-American, the fifth-highest total among all Division I institutions. Two of those have come from the women's soccer program: Joanne Crane in 1994 and Shannon Curd in 2006.
Three other Bucknell women's soccer student-athletes were two-time Academic All-District honorees: Kerry Fitz-Patrick (2003, 2005), Curd (2005-06) and current senior Chelsea Brinkman (2007-08). Stoller is Bucknell's first three-time pick.
The Bison close out the 2009 regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Colgate. They can clinch the regular-season title with either a win or a tie.
