LEWISBURG, Pa. - One of only two home varsity athletic events on Homecoming weekend, the Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host George Mason on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Kinney Natatorium. It will be the first scored meet of the season for both Bison squads.
Bucknell, which will also be home next Saturday (Oct. 31), opened its 2009-10 season three weeks ago in an unscored meet against UMBC. The Bison men claimed 13 individual victories, including six in the freestyle events. The women had similar success, earning nine first-place finishes in swimming events, sweeping the diving competition and winning the 400-yard medley relay.
Both George Mason squads are already deep into their seasons, having competed three times already. The Patriots' men's team owns a 2-1 record and finished first at the seven-team Potomac Relays Invitational. It defeated Delaware and Loyola (Md.), but fell to Patriot League foe Navy. The George Mason women's squad is 1-2 this year, having defeated Loyola (Md.), but lost to Delaware and Navy. The Patriots also swam in the Potomac Relays Invitational and placed third.
Neither Bucknell squad has ever faced George Mason.
The Bison will be back in action at Kinney Natatorium next Saturday at 2 p.m. The men will face Duquesne, while the women will take on both the Dukes and Saint Francis (Pa.). That meet will mark the final home event for Bucknell until the Bucknell Open the first weekend of December.
