LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey will make its final road trip of the regular season, traveling to Colgate and Cornell this weekend. The Bison (9-6, 2-1) face the Raiders (1-13, 0-3) at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y., before heading to Ithaca, N.Y., for the Big Red (8-3) at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats will be available for both games.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell will wrap up its road schedule with the pair of contests this weekend. The Bison are 3-5 this year in games away from Graham Field.
- The Bison have five players with double-digit points this season, and a sixth is poised to join the club. Austin Thomas (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) are tied for the team lead with 13 points. They are followed by Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) with 11, and Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) with 10. Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) enters the weekend with nine points this fall.
- Kauffman has been at 13 points for quite some time now. The junior has been held scoreless since the game against La Salle on Sept. 18 when she tallied a goal and an assist. That does not mean she has not been effective on the field, however. Kauffman was named the team's player of the month at Bucknell's Women's Sports Luncheon earlier this month.
- Bruvik's latest scoring outburst has helped to propel her into the team's third-place position in points. After failing to register a point for eight straight games, the junior forward has scored in three of the last four contests.
- Bucknell continues to lead its opponents in shots this year. Through the first 15 games, the Bison have fired 231 shots, compared to 183 for their foes.
- Head coach Jeremy Cook tied Jennifer Averill for fourth place in Bucknell history with his 20th win last Sunday when the Bison defeated Georgetown. Cook will tie Sally Starr for sixth place on the all-time games coached list with 35 on Saturday at Colgate.
- Bucknell ranks first in the Patriot League in two team categories and second in three more. The Bison are tops in shots (231) and penalty corners (141). They are second in scoring average (2.67), goals (33) and assists (25), trailing American on each list.
- Sarah Ebright (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored her first career goal when the Bison defeated Georgetown last Sunday. The score was the game winner in the 3-1 victory at Graham Field.
- In alumni news, Sally Keith' 96 will return to campus as part of Bucknell's Homecoming Alumni Readings on Saturday. The former field hockey player is the author of two books of poetry and will do a reading at 4 p.m. in Bucknell Hall.
ABOUT THE RAIDERS
- Bucknell will take on Colgate at Tyler's Field at 1 p.m. Saturday. Live stats can be found at gocolgateraiders.com.
- Bucknell leads the all-time series with Colgate, 22-10-3. The Bison were victorious, 4-3, when the two teams met in 2008. Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) tallied a goal, while former teammates Amanda Faust and Trina Boyer added the other three.
- Colgate enters the weekend with an eight-game losing streak. The Raiders have won a single game this year, defeating Saint Francis (Pa.) 5-0 more than a month ago. Most recently, they dropped a 4-2 decision to Holy Cross on the road.
- Katelyn Nerbonne leads all Raiders with 17 points on six goals and five assists this fall. Laura Denenga also has six goals on the season to tie for the team-high. In goal, Sarah Pedersen has played all 14 contests, taking a 1-13 record. The senior has a 3.17 goals against average and a .724 save percentage.
ABOUT THE BIG RED
- The matchup with Cornell is also slated for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday at Marsha Dodson Field. Live stats can be found at cornellbigred.com.
- Bucknell has a narrow lead in the all-time series with Cornell at 12-9-1. The Bison have won three in a row, including a 3-2 decision last year. Former Bison Faust had two goals, while Katie Ruiz had the third. Current Bison Raczek and Kauffman each chipped in two assists in the contest.
- Cornell is 8-3 this season and 2-2 in the Ivy League heading into the weekend. The team will take on Brown Saturday before hosting the Bison. Like the Raiders, the Big Red is also trying to reverse a losing streak. They have dropped their last two, having been shut out at Virginia (3-0) and against Harvard (1-0).
- Catie DeStio has a commanding lead over her teammates in points. She is tops on her squad in goals (7) and assists (5) for 19 points. Next on the list is Kelley Kantarian with nine points. Melanie Jue has received a majority of the time in goal for the Big Red, earning a 7-3 record and a 1.29 goals against average. Jue also has a .836 save percentage and one shutout.
UP NEXT
Colgate and Cornell will both be celebrating their Senior Days against Bucknell. It will be the Bison's turn when they return to Graham Field on Saturday, Oct. 31 to take on Holy Cross. Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex), Ebright, Krebs, and Thomas will all be recognized for their four years of commitment to Bucknell field hockey prior to the 12 p.m. game. Live stats on GameTracker will be available on BucknellBison.com.
