Lou Holtz is one of the most inspirational people in history. Though he was only a coach, he had the athlete's perspective to achieve success. Since he was able to do that, he was one of the most successful coaches in the history of sports. One of my favorite quotes of his that hits home is, "Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." Yes, he was a brilliant man, but he was just stating the obvious when he quoted this.
Now, after one year has passed for me, here at Bucknell, I can truly say that motivation and attitude are the key ingredients to success. Yes, freshman year was tough because of the big lifestyle adjustment, but I have learned that you cannot dwell on the bad stuff, because it will only hinder you from moving forward. This is the biggest thing I think many of us on the Bucknell swim team are going to take in consideration this year. I can say that last year was so exciting and awesome to be a part of the team and yes, we did conquer many of our goals. We broke more than half our team records and we had such a positive attitude as a team, both boys and girls.
But, we figured out early this year, that as a team we are motivated and determined to improve even more in all aspects of being athletes. So far, I have noticed that we are even more united and positive as a group. I feel as if we are starting to transform from being positive individuals from last year into one motivated group this year. I am excited to see what we can do this year as a team in our dual meets and at Patriot Championships.
