LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior forward Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) is one of the hottest goal-scorers around, and she was rewarded with two more honors on Monday. Matlack, who scored the game's first two goals in Bucknell's big 3-1 win over Navy on Saturday, was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, and she also received mention on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
Matlack earned Patriot League Player of the Week plaudits for the third time in the last four weeks after her clutch performance against Navy. She turned a nice Kayla Yee feed into a breakaway goal just 5:16 into the game, and later in the first half she ripped a left-footed strike under the crossbar for a 2-0 lead. The Bison went on to win 3-1 and move into a first-place tie with American atop the Patriot League standings.
For Matlack, it was her third two-goal game in the last five outings. Over that five-game span she has 14 points on six goals and two assists. That gives her seven goals and two assists for 16 points on the season, and it moves her into the Patriot League lead in both goals per game (0.54) and points per game (1.23). Her 61 shot attempts are also a league high.
Matlack, the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, has four goals against league competition, twice as many as anyone else in the conference.
She upped her career goal total to 23, which puts her in sole possession of eighth place on Bucknell's all-time list. She also moved up a spot to seventh on the career points list with 57.
Joining Matlack on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week were Erin Guthrie of Rutgers, Allie Sadow of Wake Forest, Michelle Enyeart of Portland, Tiffany McCarty of Florida State, Taylor Knaack of Notre Dame, Becca Thomas of Central Florida, Ali Riley of Stanford, Sara Jordan of Georgetown, Sarah Hagen of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Hailey Beam of Charlotte.
With three straight victories, Bucknell is now 8-6-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Patriot League. The Bison finish up the regular season with three straight road games, beginning Thursday night at Army at 7 p.m.
