BALTIMORE, Md. – Richie Hyden registered four goals and three assists for a season-high seven points, helping the No. 18 Bucknell men's water polo team to a 13-8 victory at Johns Hopkins (8-11) Friday evening. The Bison improved to 2-1 this season against the Blue Jays and are now 6-1 in league play with one league game left Saturday night at No. 13 Navy.
Bucknell (13-9) was forced to overcome a first-quarter deficit and did that by totaling eight goals in the second half en route to the five-goal victory.
Seven times this year a Bison player had registered six points a game, but Hyden did one better with his season-high seven points. He now has a team-high 69 points this year and surpassed his career high with his six ejections drawn.
Nick Barnett (three goals) and Sean Coghlan (two goals) joined Hyden with multiple-goal nights.
Bucknell's defense came up with 16 steals, one shy of its season high. Johnny Stupp posted five, while Hyden and goalie Nick Donahue picked up four apiece.
Donahue, who went over the 400-save plateau for his career, had another strong night in goal with 16 saves, the second-highest total of his career. He now has 152 saves this season and has six double-figure save performances in his last 11 outings.
Bucknell, which is 43-1 in its last 44 games when it nets at least 10 goals, will wrap up its 2009 road schedule Saturday at Navy. The league contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
