Bucknell Men's Swimming & Diving Tops Army, 190-108

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team defeated Army, 190-108, on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Kinney Natatorium. The Orange and Blue now have a 6-1 record in dual meets this season, including a 4-1 record against Patriot League competition. Bison freshman Taylor Harris (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) won three individual events, and junior Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) and freshman Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) each won two.
Harris won the 200-yard IM (one minute, 57.69 seconds), the 100 fly (51.93) and the 200 fly (1:54.78). This is the second consecutive meet that Harris has won the 200 fly, and the first time he has won either the 100 fly or the 200 IM. Harris also was a part of the winning 200 medley relay team that touched the wall in 1:35.29. Joining Harris on the team were Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), Nathaniel Frye (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Area) and Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove). Kawczenski finished first in the 100 back, with a season-best time (50.92).
Trafton won the 500 free (4:42.68) and the 1,000 free (9:40.34). Trafton is the school-record holder in both events, and his 1,000 free time is his best so far this season. Bison freshman Jonathan Podniesinski (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) finished second in the 1,000 free, with a season-best time (9:43.43) that places him fourth in the Bucknell record books.
Sokolosky won the 50 free (21.41) and the 100 free (47.01), his first individual collegiate wins. Classmate Matthew Segar (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) won the 200 free (1:43.46), giving the Orange and Blue a sweep of the freestyle events. Segar's time is his best of the season.
Bison junior Gonzalo DeLeon (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) won the 200 back (1:53.62) for the seventh consecutive meet this season. Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) won the one-meter diving event with a score of 256.05.
The Orange and Blue will have little chance to rest, as they will travel to New York, New York tomorrow for a meet against Columbia. The Bison will return to Kinney Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 24, for a 1 p.m. contest against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.
